What Are Vitamins

Vitamins are substances that are d\found in foods we eat,we need these vitamins in order for our body to work.They help you grow and develop.Some vitamins give you energy,others make you see in colour and some of them even make your teeth healthy and white.

Your body is one powerful machine capable of doing all sorts of things by itself,but one thing it cant do is make vitamins,that is why we eat food,each type of food contains different vitamins that is why it is very important that we eat the right food.

Vitamin A

This vitamin plays a big part in our eyesight,its great for night vision.It also helps you grow a healthy skin,we get vitamin A in tasty fruits like apricots,nectarines and guava.Vitamin A is in different vegetables too like carrots,spinach and pumpkins and dont forget milk,whether its on your cereal orwith a snack.

Vitamin B

This is a big crowd of vitamins includes vitamin B1,vitamion B2,vitamin B6,vitamin B12,niacin,folic acid,biotin and pantothenic acid.The vitamins are important in the metabolic(say:met-ah-bol-ic)actity-this means that they help your body create the vitamins your body needs.We find vitamin B in fish,beef,pork and chicken.Other foods also contain vitamins B are bread,cereals,whole wheat grains,green and leafy vegatables like spinach and broccoli and dried beans.

Vitamin C

If you want gums and teeth that are healthy and strong,bite into vitamin C.It also strengthens your bones and muscles,and helps you heal if you break a bone or get a cut.It also helps to resist infection.You can find vitamin C in lots of sweet fruits like oranges,lemons,grapefruit,honeydew melon,watermelon,strawberries and raspberries.And if juice is what you like,your in luck-orange juice and grapefruit juice are both full of vitamin C.Some vegatables also contain vitamin C like broccoli,tamatoes and green peppers.So get some of these vegtables on your plate and C how good you feel.

Vitamin D

Is needed for strong bones,its also great for forming strong teeth.Drinking milk is a great way to get your body Vitamin D.Other tasty treats are pudding and malted milk,and while you cant eat it the sun is also a great source of vitamin D.So is tuna fish and egg.

Vitamin E

This vitamin protects your body's tissues,like the ones in your eyes,skin and liver.It also protects your lungs from becoming damaged by polluted air.Most kids get there vitamin E from vegetable oils.Many foods like corn,sunflower seeds,nuts and in dark and leafy green vegtables like spinach contain vitamin E.
