Adults are by law compelled to wear a seatbelt when traveling in a motor vehicle, if one is fitted.

For children under 3 years of age, the law states that if a child restraint has been fitted, the child must occupy it, otherwise the driver of the vehicle may be prosecuted.

Children between the ages of 3 and 14 must wear a seatbelt if one is available in the vehicle.

In the event of a m.v.a. in which a fatality occurs, the driver can be charged with culpable homicide or manslaughter if he/she neglected to ensure the passengers were buckled up.
